Pre-AP* Strategies for Middle School Science and Social Studies Teachers
Monday-Thursday, August 2-5, 2010, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., on the Rice University campus.
This workshop is designed to provide middle school teachers the skills needed to create an innovative, advanced academic approach to their course, to improve on their existing program, and to strengthen their vertical team. Experienced master teachers will provide training to enhance the skills and pedagogy needed to prepare middle school students for advanced science and social studies courses. Subject-specific content is addressed by guest speakers and through hands-on labs. Instructors also guide participants in the development of vertical-teaming strategies.
Participants will learn how to:
- Introduce students to college skills and concepts
- Raise the academic bar at their school
- Meet the academic needs of all students
- Focus their curriculum and instruction
