Fall AP* Seminar

Professional Development for Middle School and High School Teachers of Advanced Courses

Saturday, November 14, 2009, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

This one-day Advanced Placement Seminar is designed for teachers interested in acquiring content and strategies for teaching advanced courses. The seminar, facilitated by a master teacher, will provide a forum for the exploration and discussion of course content, best practices and instructional strategies.

Who Should Attend: The seminar is intended as a follow-up workshop for teachers who have already attended a summer institute; however, it would also be of great value to a teacher new to the advanced course and looking for guidance in course execution.

When and Where: Saturday, November 14, 2009, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on the Rice University campus, Houston, Texas

This workshop has been approved for six hours of G/T credit by TAGT; three hours in creativity and instructional strategies and three hours in differentiated curriculum.

Tuition: $110 (includes snacks and refreshments, lunch, and workshop materials)

Registration: (Download the registration form) Limited space is available for the program. Register early to ensure your spot. Only completed forms accompanied by check, credit card information, or copy of a purchase order or direct pay form are accepted for registration.

Acknowledgment of Enrollment: Once your completed enrollment is received, you will either be enrolled in the course or placed on a waiting list if the course has filled. In either case, you will receive written notification from Rice at your home address within 15 days of receipt of your registration. Please contact our office, 713-348-6031, if you do not receive notification from us. You may need to check with your school or district administrative office to ensure the registration was sent.

Course Cancellation Policy: Although we make every effort to maintain the published schedule of classes, events such as insufficient enrollment, instructor illness, room conflicts or inclement weather may require a schedule adjustment or cancellation. We will notify registrants of any change in the published information.

Refund Policy: Full refunds for course tuition will be issued for cancellations received via e-mail or fax by October 16. Refunds for cancellations received October 17 through November 2 will be issued only if a replacement can be found for you, and a 20 percent processing fee will be deducted from your refund. No refunds will be issued after November 2. There is a $30 charge for all checks returned for insufficient funds.

Special Needs: We make every effort to hold classes in rooms that are accessible to all participants. However, some older buildings cannot be made readily accessible for wheelchairs. If you have any special needs, include these on the registration form, and we will attempt to accommodate you.

The Hilton Hotel can provide transportation to campus if arrangements are made in advance with the concierge.

Airport transportation: Transportation to and from the airport can be arranged through Super Shuttle at www.supershuttle.com or (800) BLUE-VAN (258-3826). Prices range from $23 one-way from Hobby Airport to $27 one-way from Bush Intercontinental Airport. Additionally, taxi transportation can be arranged starting at $30 from Hobby Airport and $50 from Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Parking on Rice University Campus: Parking validations will be provided at registration.

Central Campus Garage: The Central Campus Garage is located under McNair Hall. Look up McNair Hall on the campus map or look for building #44 on the PDF map.

To enter the Central Campus Garage: Machines at the entrance gates will instruct the driver to insert a credit card (American Express, VISA, MasterCard or Discover). When the gate opens, the computer’s “parking meter” begins.

Using Parking Validations (provided at registration): When exiting, the visitor inserts the parking validation first and then the same credit card that was used to enter the parking lot. The machine will keep the parking validation and return the credit card uncharged.
