In response to the success of our two-day “4x4 Science Symposium,” Rice University is offering a five-day “High School Science Symposium” designed to provide in-depth training for science teachers in a wider-array of courses. This symposium will focus on specific science courses that will be required for students and/or could be used as a fourth-year science requirement. The program will provide guidance in course execution, implementation, content and strategies.

Courses offered:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Earth and Space Science
  • Environmental Systems
  • Physics

Each course will emphasize course syllabi, scope and sequence, subject-specific content and teaching resources, textbook analysis, and best practices. Master teachers who have previously taught the courses will preside over the presentation and discussion.

Who should attend: The symposium is designed for classroom teachers with little or no experience in teaching the selected course and will be teaching it in the 2010-2011 academic school year.

When and where: Participants will meet a total of five days: three days during the summer, one day in the fall and one day in the spring. All meetings will be held on the Rice University campus in Houston, Texas.
